All-Clad Vs. Demeyere: Which Is Better?

clad stainless cookware, cookware, review

If you're a serious home chef, you need to have the proper tools.

With the possible exception of knives, the most important tools in your kitchen are your pots and pans.

All-Clad and Demeyere cookware are two of the best options. Here, we examine and compare All-Clad and Demeyere clad stainless steel cookware (so if you're looking for nonstick advice, this article is not it). Both are great brands, but there are some big differences between them.

All-Clad Class Action Lawsuit

As of October 2022, All-Clad is settling their lawsuit claiming that their cookware is not dishwasher safe. If you've purchased All-Clad D3, D5, or LTD from 2015-July 2022, you may be eligible to receive compensation from All-Clad. You can find the details at multi-plycookwaresettlement.com.

The All-Clad Lines

Line

Description

Best For

 All-Clad D3 5 pc set

-3 ply (s-a-s). 2.6mm thick w/1.7mm aluminum core

-Most popular AC line

-Oven safe to 500F

-About $700 for 10pc set.

Great all around cookware, best price of all the AC stainless lines.

All Clad D3 Everyday 10Pc Set

-Tri-ply s-a-s, 2.6mm thick w/1.7mm aluminum core

-Identical to D3 with new handle, slightly larger skillets, and grooved pouring rims on all pieces, and glass lids

-Oven safe to 600F

-About $650 for 10pc set.

D3 in an updated, less expensive package, and with glass lids (which we don't like). Exclusive to All-Clad website. Great all-around cookware if you don't mind the glass lids.

All Clad D5 set

-5 ply (s-a-s-a-s)

-2.6mm thick

-Same thickness as D3, so less aluminum because of steel core

-Oven safe to 600F

-About $900 for 10pc set.

Marginally more even heating than D3 and more expensive. We recommend D3 instead.

All Clad Copper Core 7 pc set

-5 ply with copper core (s-a-c-a-s) -1.7mm total thickness w/1mm layer of copper--thinner than D3 and slightly more responsive

-Oven safe to 600F

-About $1200 for 10pc set.

Thinner, slightly more responsive than D3, CC is great all-around cookware, but the slightly faster heating may not be worth the higher price.

G5 Graphite Core

see G5 at all-clad.com

All-Clad G5 skillet

-5-ply s-a-g-a-s (g=graphite)

-Graphite more heat conductive than copper

-Carbon only in bottom; sides are s-a-s

-New-style handle

-Lightest AC line

-Oven safe to 600F

-About $1300 for 10pc set.

Lighter than D3 or Copper Core, so good for people with ergonomic issues. Heats marginally faster. Expensive, no sets available. Exclusive to All-Clad website.

Collective (W-S exclusive)

see it at Williams-Sonoma

AC Collective 10 Pc Set

-A mix of AC configurations: D5 skillets; Copper Core sauce pans; D3 sauté pans and rondeau

-New-style handles and lids

-Oven safe to 600F

-$165/205/230 (10"/12"/14"); no 8" skillet available

-$1000 (10 pc set only).

More expensive than the lines it's made. Good for people who want their cookware to match, but these different configurations probably aren't worth the higher price.
